A fresh foray into pop culture has just been signed off by Seiko, with the Seiko 5 Sports SRPM07, a limited edition inspired by the Pink Panther and, more specifically, by the animated short The Pink Phink. A pink dial, iconic pawprints, a “WET PAINT” typography and a 38 mm SKX architecture: the whole thing was designed to inject a dose of mischief into everyday wear, without abandoning the utilitarian codes of the 5 Sports line.

A meeting between Seiko 5 Sports and the Pink Panther
The character, who first appeared in the opening titles of the film The Pink Panther in 1964, was chosen for his “cool and curious” personality, mischievous and instantly recognizable. This SRPM07 was conceived as a narrative object: the aesthetic points directly to The Pink Phink, the story in which the “Little Man’s” house was repainted pink against his will, detail after detail.

A committed “pink” design, down to the storytelling details
The signature color was applied across several levels: dial, bezel and seconds hand were dressed in pink, for immediate visual impact. On the dial, the pawprints, a central element of the story, were added as a thread leading to the discovery of the Pink Panther.

The most literal nod was reserved for the additional strap: an interchangeable nylon strap was supplied, decorated with pawprints and finished with the wording « WET PAINT », lifted directly from the original animation. The same typography was used for the bezel numerals, as if the object had been “painted” at the last minute, on purpose.

On the back, a clearly “collector” approach was favored. A memorable scene from the animation, in which the Pink Panther hides against a pink wall, was integrated into the caseback. The Limited Edition inscription as well as the individual serial number were engraved there, reinforcing the limited-edition status beyond the mere color scheme.

An SKX base reworked in 38 mm: proportions and utilitarian DNA
The SRPM07 is inspired by the SKX series, well known to collectors. The steel case has a diameter of 38.0 mm, for 12.1 mm in thickness and 44.2 mm lug-to-lug. The lug width is 20 mm, a practical detail for multiplying strap options beyond the one supplied.

A unidirectional rotating bezel was fitted, consistent with the “sport” spirit of the SKX family. Water resistance was announced at 10 bar (100 m), positioning the model as a versatile everyday watch, more “sporty” than strictly a “diver” in the normative sense.
Caliber 4R36: a familiar movement, chosen for its versatility
Inside the case, it is the caliber 4R36 that powers the SRPM07. It is an automatic movement with manual-winding capability, via the crown, and equipped with a hacking-seconds function. On the dial, a day/date display provides handy indications. Finally, the power reserve allows for around 41 hours of autonomy.

This choice was a logical one: the 4R36 is generally used when a watch needs to stay simple, robust and affordable, while retaining the “fun” functions expected by an enthusiast audience (manual winding, hacking seconds, day/date).
Dedicated box and collector logic
Seiko paired this edition with a box inspired by the Little Man’s house, as it is repainted pink in the animation. The packaging was therefore treated as an extension of the theme, and not as a mere generic case.

The stance was clear: this SRPM07 was not designed to “disappear” on the wrist, but to tell a story that is identifiable at a glance, and to be collected.

A pop “tool watch”, in the right size
Between animated tribute and SKX platform, the SRPM07 was conceived as a bridge: on one side, the accessible sporty identity of Seiko 5 Sports; on the other, a “collector object” dimension supported by the limitation to 9,999 pieces, the worked caseback and the narrative packaging.
The 38 mm diameter should also make adoption easier: wrist presence remains marked by the color, but the proportions stay contained, with a 44.2 mm lug-to-lug that suggests good wearability across a wide range of wrists.
