A city never lets itself be captured in a single image. At dawn, glass facades catch a cold, almost ethereal light. A few hours later they take on brighter glints, before changing once again as the sun goes down. In the meantime, the streets have come alive, trains have come and gone, squares have filled up and emptied out. The modern city is an organism in perpetual motion, shaped as much by its architecture as by the people who pass through it.

It is precisely this sense of movement, light and transformation that NOMOS Glashütte now translates into a new expression of its Metro. With the Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue, the Saxon manufacture presents a model with a light metallic blue dial whose shades shift subtly with the light. Behind this new look, however, lies above all a major mechanical step forward: the watch debuts the new DUW 4701 hand-wound calibre, fitted with a patented quick date correction system and a power reserve of up to 52 hours.
With this new release, NOMOS Glashütte continues a story that began in 2014, when the first Metro Date Power Reserve marked a decisive milestone in the brand’s technical development.
Metro: an urban vision of time

The Metro collection was born in Berlin on the drawing board of industrial designer Mark Braun, who has worked with NOMOS Glashütte since 2014. From the outset, the line stood out for its distinctly contemporary take on the mechanical watch, with the emphasis on proportions, legibility and graphic balance.
The very first model in the family was the Metro Date Power Reserve. Its identity rested in particular on a power reserve indicator placed asymmetrically on the dial. That detail became a true aesthetic signature and helped give the watch its instantly recognisable character.
Since then, the Metro family has kept growing. It now counts 16 models and has collected several international accolades, including the iF Design Award, the Red Dot Award and the German Design Award.
This recognition highlights an essential trait of the Metro: at NOMOS Glashütte, design is never separated from function. Every element has to find its place within a precisely conceived overall architecture.
A new Ice Blue face

With the Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue, NOMOS Glashütte refreshes this architecture with a new and particularly luminous hue.
The dial comes in a light blue with a metallic finish whose appearance changes with the surrounding light. At times pale and cool blue, at times almost white, it seems to respond to light the way a glass facade does over the course of a day.
This shifting quality gives the model a decidedly contemporary personality. The dial does more than tell the time: it is central to the watch’s visual identity.
The minute track adds to this impression of graphic precision. Each minute is marked by a simple dot, while deliberately empty spaces give the whole layout structure with great restraint.
Against the Ice Blue background, these elements stand out especially crisply. Reading the time gains in visual precision without giving up the restraint so typical of NOMOS Glashütte design.
This new colour is not reserved for the Metro Date Power Reserve, either. The Ice Blue dial is also offered on the Metro Neomatik 41 Update, extending this new chromatic expression across the collection.
The DUW 4701 calibre, a new mechanical heart

The real news of this Metro, however, lies inside its case.
The Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue is the first NOMOS Glashütte watch to receive the new DUW 4701 hand-wound calibre. This movement opens a new chapter in the manufacture’s mechanical evolution, while reconnecting with a core trait of the Metro’s recent history: innovation.
The DUW 4701 offers a power reserve of up to 52 hours. It also features a patented quick date correction system, a function that makes the watch more pleasant to use day to day and reflects the work NOMOS Glashütte has put into everyday mechanisms.
Through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, the movement can be admired in full. The mechanics thus become part of the aesthetic experience, offering the eye a second reading of the watch after the one provided by the dial.
A mechanical story that began in 2014

To grasp the significance of the DUW 4701, one has to go back to the origins of the Metro Date Power Reserve.
When it was launched in 2014, the model was the first NOMOS Glashütte timepiece to feature the NOMOS Swing System, a proprietary escapement developed by the manufacture.
In a mechanical watch, the escapement plays a fundamental role: it regulates the release of the energy stored in the mainspring barrel and thus ensures the steady running of the entire movement. Mastering its design and production is therefore a major technical challenge.
NOMOS Glashütte reached an important milestone in its history by introducing its own escapement. Few watch manufactures in the world are able to produce this essential component in house.
The new Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue carries this approach forward. Its new DUW 4701 calibre continues a path in which the watch’s mechanical development and its design language evolve hand in hand.
Time as a reflection of the contemporary city

The strength of the Metro also lies in its ability to translate an abstract idea, that of the modern city, into concrete watchmaking elements.
The asymmetric power reserve indicator, the understated minute track, the controlled use of empty space and now this Ice Blue hue together form an aesthetic that owes more to contemporary architecture than to traditional ornamentation.
The new colour heightens this feeling even further. Depending on the viewing angle and the ambient light, the dial seems to change in intensity, moving from an almost icy light blue to a much whiter tone.
It is a particularly subtle reminder that time is never perceived in an entirely fixed way. It follows the changes in light, surroundings and activity that set the rhythm of our days.
NOMOS Glashütte Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue: where design meets mechanics

With the Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue, NOMOS Glashütte is therefore doing far more than adding a new colour to its collection.
The new Ice Blue dial renews the visual expression of a watch whose design dates back to 2014, while the DUW 4701 calibre opens a new mechanical chapter with its manual winding, patented quick date correction and 52 hour power reserve.
The Metro thus continues its journey without turning its back on its identity. Since its creation by Mark Braun, it has remained true to a vision in which the mechanical watch can engage with the contemporary world, its architecture, its light and its movement.
That philosophy finds a particularly luminous expression here: a dial that changes its face with the light, paired with new mechanics that carry on the spirit of innovation of NOMOS Glashütte.
