Some watches push the limits of mechanics. Others reinvent the way we read time. To mark its 30th anniversary, Parmigiani Fleurier signs what is arguably one of the boldest watchmaking statements of recent years with the Tonda PF Trilogy 30th Anniversary. More than a limited series, this collection brings together three world premieres that share the same philosophy: making the complication disappear when it is not needed, leaving room for the essential alone.
Each produced in only 30 pieces and made entirely of 950 platinum, these three creations do not simply celebrate three decades of horological excellence. They offer a new way of conceiving high complication, one where mechanical sophistication is placed entirely at the service of legibility and the wearer’s experience.

A new philosophy of complication

Since Parmigiani Fleurier‘s repositioning in 2021, the Tonda PF collection has established itself as the expression of a discreet luxury, where every detail contributes to an almost architectural balance.
A case with perfect proportions, an integrated bracelet, a knurled bezel, uncluttered dials: from its very beginnings, the collection has favored a quiet elegance that refuses any unnecessary display.
With this anniversary trilogy, the Manufacture takes this approach even further. Its idea is as simple as it is revolutionary: a complication should not clutter the dial when it is not in use.

At Parmigiani Fleurier, civil time always retains priority. Additional functions appear only when their use becomes necessary, before disappearing again to give the dial back its full purity.
This vision demands considerable technical mastery. Making a complication disappear without compromising its efficiency requires solving complex problems of synchronization, architecture, energy management and layering of indications.
Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante: traveling without disturbing the present

The first piece in this trilogy revisits one of the most useful complications in contemporary watchmaking: the GMT.
Traditionally, a GMT watch permanently displays a second time zone, multiplying the information on the dial. Parmigiani Fleurier takes a radically different approach.
A second hour hand, made of pink gold, remains completely invisible when it is not needed. It appears only on demand to display the reference time, before returning to perfectly overlap the main hand.
The result is remarkably elegant. The journey exists, but it is never visually imposed. The watch instantly regains the appearance of a classic three-hand timepiece, letting local time keep all its importance.
This world premiere turns a practical function into an almost intimate experience of travel, where the second time zone becomes personal information rather than a permanent display element.
Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante: restoring nobility to everyday moments

With the Minute Rattrapante, Parmigiani Fleurier turns its attention to a surprisingly little-explored function.
Rather than measuring sporting performances or complex events, this complication accompanies the simplest gestures of everyday life: tracking the length of a meeting, timing a cooking duration, monitoring a precise interval.
An additional minute hand appears at the desired moment to take the measurement, then discreetly returns to overlap the main hand once its task is complete.
Here again, the complication fades away completely once it is no longer in use.
This watch perfectly illustrates the Manufacture’s philosophy: offering extraordinarily sophisticated mechanics in the service of an extraordinarily natural use. The complication ceases to be demonstrative and becomes almost behavioral, appearing only at the right moment.
Tonda PF Chronographe Mystérieux: completely rethinking the chronograph

This is probably the most spectacular piece in the trilogy.
For more than a century, chronographs have been instantly recognizable by their auxiliary counters. Parmigiani Fleurier completely challenges this architecture.
At rest, nothing distinguishes the Tonda PF Chronographe Mystérieux from a classic three-hand watch. No counter, no additional scale disturbs the balance of the dial.
When the chronograph is activated, all the information appears at the center of the watch thanks to an architecture bringing together five coaxial hands. Chronograph hours, minutes and seconds are thus displayed in a central, intuitive and perfectly legible reading.
To achieve this result, Parmigiani Fleurier developed the PF053 caliber, fitted with a triple-clutch architecture combining one vertical clutch and two horizontal clutches.
The technical feat is immense, yet remains completely invisible to the wearer. True to its philosophy, the Manufacture lets the mechanics fade behind the reading experience.
Platinum, the expression of a quiet luxury

While the three watches share the same mechanical philosophy, they also come together around a single material.
Each model is made entirely of 950 platinum, from the case to the integrated bracelet, including the knurled bezel and the sandblasted dial.
At Parmigiani Fleurier, platinum is not chosen for its rarity alone. It embodies a genuine philosophy of luxury.
Denser, harder to work and infinitely more discreet than gold, it possesses an almost silent presence that perfectly matches the spirit of this trilogy. Here, the material never seeks to impress through its shine, but through its depth, its touch and its permanence.
A new grammar for haute horlogerie

Together, these three creations sketch a coherent vision of contemporary complication.
The GMT Rattrapante reinvents travel time. The Minute Rattrapante elevates the measurement of everyday moments. The Chronographe Mystérieux frees the chronograph from its traditional architecture.
All three share the same conviction: innovation no longer consists of adding information to a dial, but of perfectly mastering the moment when it appears.
This approach may well mark a turning point in the history of haute horlogerie. Where other manufactures still seek to demonstrate their virtuosity, Parmigiani Fleurier chooses to erase it behind an apparent simplicity that nonetheless demands exceptional mechanical mastery.
Through this Tonda PF Trilogy 30th Anniversary, the Manufacture does not merely celebrate its past. It offers a deep reflection on the future of horological complication, where true sophistication no longer lies in what the watch permanently shows, but in its ability to reveal the essential exactly when its owner needs it.
Frequently asked questions
It is a collection of three world premieres created by Parmigiani Fleurier for its 30th anniversary: the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante and the Tonda PF Chronographe Mystérieux, each produced in only 30 pieces in 950 platinum.
All three follow the idea that a complication should disappear from the dial when it is not needed, appearing only on demand before returning to a clean, classic three-hand display.
A second hour hand in pink gold stays invisible until activated, then appears to show the reference time before perfectly overlapping the main hour hand again.
At rest it looks like a plain three-hand watch with no counters, but when activated, five coaxial hands display chronograph hours, minutes and seconds centrally, powered by the newly developed PF053 caliber with a triple-clutch architecture.
950 platinum was chosen not just for its rarity but for its discreet, dense and durable character, which reflects the collection’s philosophy of quiet luxury over visible display.
