« Surprise is the key to all art »,said Oscar Niemeyer, great brazilian architect honored by Hublot in 2011,
A man moved by beauty, freedom, and whose boldness enabled him to throw off the shackles of established rules.
In January 2015, Hublot Vendôme choses to honor a defrocked architect who converted to sculpting : Quentin Carnaille
Bold and free, Quentin shares the carioca’s values, and stands out with a peculiar and atypical career path (Hublots cultivates and loves being different).
At barely 30 years old, Quentin is very young, but his love story with horology is already ancient. Fascinated by details, as well as by the philosophical notion of time which obsesses him, he nourishes this passion for watch mechanisms.
In 2008, one year before obtaining his diploma in architecture, he dismantles a watch from 1930 to create a pair of cufflinks from its mechanism. One month later, the jewels end up in the highly prestigious « Salon des Antiquaires », thereby offering Quentin a recognition for his talent by the greatest of the watchmaking and jewelry industry.
Since this first success, his inspiration has been growing stronger, feeding itself from always more watch movements.
In 2009, highly successful year, he validates his diploma and wins a prize. This offers him the possibility to open his first store in Lille. He moves in the basement during a year to keep working night and day.
Inspired by notions of time, inifinity, relativity, as well as astronomy, the young artist’s creativity intensifies and diversifies constantly.
The result of this effervescence is simply jaw-dropping.
Magic, magnetic, awe-inspiring, the artist shakes up the rules of art, rendering each one of his creations impressive, sensitive and human at the same time. Human, because, just like him, Quentin Carnaille’s work is not immutable, always subject to impermanence… Impermanence, time’s faithful friend….
