To celebrate ten years of its patented nO-Ring® technology, Mauron Musy returns to the origin of its story with a particularly personal creation. The MU05 nO-Ring Origin does not only celebrate an innovation that deeply shaped the young independent Swiss manufacture: it reveals, for the first time, the pages of handwritten calculations that preceded its birth.
Thirteen years after the creation of Mauron Musy, Christophe Musy and Eric Mauron have chosen to tell their story differently. Not through a simple commemorative engraving or a traditional anniversary series, but by giving twenty-six collectors a fragment of the thinking that led to the invention of the nO-Ring® technology.

A technology born from an engineer’s question

When Mauron Musy was founded in 2013, the ambition of Christophe Musy and Eric Mauron was clear: to rethink mechanical watchmaking through engineering. Three years later, this approach gave rise to the patented nO-Ring® technology, developed after three years of calculations, prototyping and physical testing.
At the origin of this thinking lies a contradiction that the two founders wanted to resolve. A mechanical watch is designed to run for decades thanks to a multitude of components of extreme precision. Yet its water resistance traditionally relies on rubber gaskets, consumable parts destined to degrade over time.
Mauron Musy therefore decided to challenge this convention.
The nO-Ring® technology is based on a case made of several parts whose water resistance is ensured mechanically. A specific geometry, extreme flatness of the surfaces and minimal machining tolerances make it possible to achieve direct contact between the metal and the sapphire crystal. After three years of development, this architecture achieves a stated water resistance of 300 metres without any rubber gasket.
This innovation is therefore not a simple technical element added to a collection. It forms the very foundation of Mauron Musy and reflects the approach of a house that claims its independence and its determination not to accept established answers.
From the engineer’s notebook to the dial of the MU05

Before becoming a patented technology, the nO-Ring® first existed on sheets of paper.
Christophe Musy developed his first ideas by hand, drawing the geometries and calculating the tolerances needed to allow the metal alone to ensure the water resistance of the case. These working documents were then kept for a decade in the founder’s personal notebook.
For the MU05 nO-Ring Origin, these archives finally leave their notebook to become part of the watch itself.
Each dial thus presents a fragment of Christophe Musy’s original notes. Printed on a sandblasted black plate and visible through the openworked architecture of the MU05, they deliberately appear just as they were written: sometimes incomplete, sometimes still unresolved, but always authentic.
Thirteen different drawings were selected from these development pages. No two pieces show exactly the same fragment of calculations. The unique character of each dial extends to the strap, where the same handwritten calculations are laser engraved.
The watch therefore does not only retell the story of the nO-Ring® technology. It preserves a material trace of it, that of the intellectual journey that preceded its realisation.
Thirteen pieces, two executions

The MU05 nO-Ring Origin is offered in two executions of thirteen pieces each. The choice of the number thirteen is no accident. Mauron Musy points out that it notably refers to the manufacture’s year of foundation, 2013, as well as to the two letter M’s of Mauron and Musy, the thirteenth letter of the alphabet. It also symbolises the house’s determination to break the codes and defy conventions.
The first version, the MU05-111, features a Grade 5 titanium case combining polished, microblasted and satin-brushed surfaces. Its 44 mm architecture houses an openworked dial punctuated by contrasting details in a red gold hue.
The skeletonised, luminescent sword-shaped hands extend this technical aesthetic, while the small seconds sit at 9 o’clock.
A second execution, referenced MU05-112, will complete the series with thirteen additional pieces. It will retain the same concept, the same calibre and the same philosophy, but its colours and finishes remain secret for now.
The MM01-SK manufacture calibre, with an open heart

At the heart of this anniversary creation is the MM01-SK calibre, the first movement developed exclusively for Mauron Musy.
Designed, manufactured and assembled in Switzerland, this skeletonised movement was conceived to reveal the mechanical architecture without sacrificing legibility. The escapement, the barrel and the hour and minute pinions are exposed to view, while both sides of the movement are visible through the sapphire.
The MM01-SK features bidirectional automatic winding. It comprises 157 components and 25 jewels, runs at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, and offers a power reserve of 55 hours.
Its decoration follows the same logic as that of the watch: openworked snailed bridges with a microblasted structure, diamond-polished angles, rhodium-plated and circular-grained wheels, steel screws with polished heads and a tungsten rotor that is itself snailed.
A case designed around the nO-Ring®

With its 44 mm diameter and 13 mm thickness, the MU05 retains the proportions characteristic of the collection. The Grade 5 titanium case combines different finishes to emphasise its volumes and its technical architecture.
It is made up of 29 components and features a crystal as well as a sapphire caseback, both with anti-reflective treatment. But it is above all its water-resistance system that constitutes its true signature.
Thanks to the nO-Ring® technology, the watch claims a mechanical water resistance of 300 metres, or 30 ATM, without resorting to any rubber gaskets.
This engineering feat thus remains directly linked to the identity of the MU05. Ten years after the technology was developed, Mauron Musy intends to demonstrate that the solution devised by Christophe Musy continues to fulfil its function without any specific maintenance intended to preserve this water resistance.
A watch that preserves the trace of an idea

The MU05 nO-Ring Origin has a dimension that goes far beyond its technical specifications.
Each piece preserves part of a personal line of reasoning, made tangible on the dial and extended onto the strap. For Mauron Musy, collectors therefore do not simply own an anniversary watch: they carry with them a fragment of the moment when an idea, still unfinished, was beginning to take shape.
This approach matches the vision of independence championed by Christophe Musy: mastering the design, the engineering and the idea, while retaining the freedom to pursue one’s own intuitions. The manufacture still applies this method today, in which an idea can emerge, be discussed, questioned and then rebuilt together with the watchmakers and technicians.
100% Swiss Crafted

The MU05 nO-Ring Origin finally falls within the ‘Swiss Crafted’ standard claimed by Mauron Musy. The manufacture specifies that development, manufacturing and assembly are carried out entirely in Switzerland, within a radius of about sixty kilometres around its St-Aubin manufacture. This proximity allows the various trades to communicate directly and enables the house to retain control of every stage, from the first sketch to the final adjustment.
With this anniversary edition, Mauron Musy does not merely celebrate ten years of nO-Ring®. The manufacture opens its research notebook and turns its archives into watchmaking material.
The MU05 nO-Ring Origin thus becomes the witness of an idea even before it became an innovation: a watch where an engineer’s calculations, the architecture of a movement and a patented water-resistance technology tell one and the same story.
And this story will be accessible to only twenty-six collectors.
