The Journey.
The Journey has built on this strong foundation with Chopard deepening its commitment to sustainable luxury, by sourcing from businesses that are demonstrably committed to responsible, ethical, social and environmental practices.
The Journey started with Chopard forging a philanthropic relationship with the influential South American mining NGO, the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM).
Working alongside ARM, Chopard has begun to transform the lives of artisanal gold miners in small, remote South American community mines in Colombia, providing social welfare, education and training whilst protecting the natural resources and wildlife habitats they depend on.
Chopard has become the first watches and luxury jewellery company to support and enable mining communities to reach Fairmined certification. This certification will provide a stable route to market and a fair deal for the miners and their communities when selling their gold.
Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard said: “As a century old, family-run business, we are very aware of our responsibilities in our journey to sustainable luxury. It is not an easy journey, but it is the right one. The Journey is the start of a very exciting multi-year programme that will ensure we are working towards our goal of sustainable jewellery”.
Chopard, through its financial support to the mining communities and working with its NGO partner ARM is delivering a premium price for the gold the communities produce, and has agreed to source the gold produced directly from the communities.
Chopard created its very first High Jewellery creations in accordance with The Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) ethical benchmarking, named the Green Carpet Collection.
