Some watches win us over through their mechanics. Others through their design, their balance, their ability to move through any setting without ever raising their voice. And then there are those that tell a more subtle story: a gesture, a material, a heritage. With four new creations added to the Presage Classic collection Series, Seiko continues one of its favourite pursuits: bringing mechanical watchmaking into dialogue with Japanese arts and craftsmanship.

This time, the inspiration comes from Tomioka silk, an exceptional Japanese silk produced in the Gunma region, north-west of Tokyo. A precious, soft, luminous material whose substance Seiko does not seek to reproduce, but rather its visual emotion: the drape, the sheen, the fineness of the thread, that singular way silk has of catching the light without ever disturbing it.

Tomioka Silk, a Living Memory of Japan
Founded in 1872, the Tomioka mill holds a special place in Japan’s industrial and cultural history. It played a decisive role in the development of the silk industry, to the point of becoming one of the symbols of the country’s entry into modernity. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014, it remains today one of the great witnesses to this meeting of tradition, technique and transmission.

This is precisely the idea Seiko Presage sets out to celebrate. The Presage collection has long established itself as one of Seiko’s favoured arenas of expression when it comes to showcasing Japanese craftsmanship: intricately worked dials, textures inspired by noble materials, colours drawn from ancient traditions, a feel for detail and nuance. Here, the watch becomes almost textile. The dial seems to ripple, to breathe, to fold like a fabric beneath the light.
Four Dials, Four Sensibilities
The four new references share the same dial pattern, inspired by the delicate drape of Tomioka silk. The texture plays with the light and lends the whole a very particular depth. It is neither showy nor overly decorative. Instead, it invites the eye to come closer, to seek out the detail, to grasp what the surface is telling us.
The centrepiece of this new family is the Seiko Presage Classic Series HCC008, offered as a limited edition of 2,000 pieces. Its pale dial receives a mother-of-pearl finish that evokes the immaculate lustre of silk. The steel case with a rose-gold-coloured coating, paired with a dark brown leather strap, reinforces this classic, almost ceremonial elegance. The leather, sourced from Leather Working Group certified tanneries, draws its inspiration from the brick façade of the Tomioka mill. This is a warm, refined watch, one that embraces a certain softness without ever lapsing into preciousness.

Alongside it, three models join the permanent collection. The HCC001 features a shironeri dial, an immaculate white directly associated with the refining of silk threads. The HCC002 stands out with its wakatake-iro dial, a fresh, luminous green long prized in the dyeing of kimonos. Finally, the HCC003 offers a sakura-iro interpretation, a delicate pink that recalls cherry blossoms, paired with a deep brown leather strap reminiscent of the tree’s trunk.

This trio composes a deeply Japanese palette, in which every shade carries a meaning, a story, a sensibility. Nothing is left to chance. Colour serves not merely to seduce: it extends the narrative.
The Perfect Diameter: 38 mm
The other good news lies in the format. These four Seiko Presage Classic Series watches introduce a 38 mm case within this line. A particularly well-balanced dimension, one that will suit a wide range of wrists and that reinforces the dressy character of these watches.

At 12.9 mm thick, with a double-domed sapphire crystal featuring anti-reflective treatment on the inner face, a screwed transparent case back and 10 bar water resistance, these Presage watches do more than simply look elegant. They stay true to the Seiko spirit: watches designed to be worn, enjoyed, used. Everyday timepieces, yet with a soul crafted carefully enough to accompany dressier moments too.

The HCC001 and HCC002 versions are fitted on a steel bracelet with an ultra-hard coating and a push-button folding clasp. The HCC003 and HCC008 are offered on a leather strap with a folding clasp, once again in keeping with a more classic sense of elegance.
The 6R51 Caliber, Simple and Effective
At the heart of these four creations beats the mechanical Seiko 6R51 caliber. This automatic movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz, holds 24 jewels and offers a power reserve of around 72 hours. Three days of autonomy, then, which makes for genuine everyday convenience.

The three-hand display, without a date, contributes to the overall balance. It lets the dial breathe and respects the purity of the silk-inspired pattern. It is a coherent, almost self-evident choice: when the dial is the true subject, any superfluous visual complication becomes a distraction.
Accessible Elegance, a Sincere Story
With these new Presage Classic Series, Seiko pulls off a delicate feat: offering a watch that is accessible, mechanically serious, culturally grounded and visually distinctive. The concept could have turned merely decorative. Here it remains heartfelt. Tomioka silk is no mere aesthetic pretext. It becomes the connecting thread of a collection that speaks of heritage, transmission, light and material.

Seiko also announces that a portion of the revenue generated by this collection will be donated to the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization, whose mission is to preserve and pass on the tradition of sericulture as well as silk culture in Japan. A way of carrying the story beyond the object itself.
The four models will be available from July 2026 in Seiko boutiques and at authorised retailers.

With this new family inspired by Tomioka silk, Seiko Presage reminds us of what makes it singular: a rare ability to transform a material, a colour or a craft into horological emotion. A watch no longer merely tells the time. It becomes a fragment of culture, a sensitive surface, an invitation to take the time to look.
