Hublot, the Official Licensed Watch for the UEFA Champions LeagueTM, takes great pride in congratulating Real Madrid victory at this final between two teams from the same country. This competition decisively confirms the watchmaking brand’s position in the footballing world.
The now famous Hublot panels were also there on the pitch. They are used by the fourth official to indicate extra time and player changes and have become an essential feature of major football competitions since their introduction at UEFA EURO 2008TM. They have a distinctive look and a bespoke design following the style of each of the competitions. The design for the UEFA Champions LeagueTM was unveiled during the first leg of the play-offs on 18 August 2015.
In honour of this dynamic partnership, Hublot is proud to unveil the new Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronograph UEFA Champions League, the Official Licensed Watch of the competition. Hublot is thus introducing a limited edition of 100 pieces carrying its legendary Unico retrograde chronograph movement. Dressed in the dark blue that represents the UEFA Champions League, its 45-mm black ceramic case bears a blue alligator on rubber strap with white stitching.
A mechanical chronograph to time football matches: the HUB1261 movement can be seen through a sapphire back cover crowned with the UEFA Champions League™ emblem. The UNICO manufacture calibre is fitted with a patented automatic winding bi-retrograde module used to time the duration of a football match. Designed to time two 45-minute halves and extra time that can run up to 60 minutes, it has a central chronograph where the second and minute hands move on an arc between 10 and 2 o’clock. When the mechanism is activated using the push button at 2 o’clock, the second hand advances as far as the 60 mark before making a quick leap back to zero and starting again, whilst the minute hands counts the time passed. The window in the centre shows the period of the match in progress (1 – 1st period / ½ – first half / 2nd period, END – end of game). Local time is given in the counter at 6 o’clock.
Hublot – A passionate watchmaker that has loved football for 10 years.
Hublot was the first luxury brand to invest in football back in 2006. The company was then the partner of the Swiss team, and in 2008 became the « Official Timekeeper » of UEFA EURO 2008. Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot and the watches division for LVMH, was the man behind Hublot’s entry into the world of football. His idea was to « go to where the potential customer is ». In 2015, Hublot became the official licensed watch partner for the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
