Exposition « Stone in Store » de Thierry Courtadon chez Hublot Vendôme du lundi 20 avril au samedi 9 mai 2015

Depuis sa création en 1980, la maison consacre du temps à la recherche sur des matériaux toujours plus innovants. En découle une audace inévitable lorsqu’un savant fou donne vie à un or inrayable, ou bien encore détourne de la dentelle pour l’apposer sur du carbone.

Hublot, amoureux de la matière, met à l’honneur un homme qui partage cette même passion : Thierry Courtadon.

Inscrit dans l’ADN des hommes de la lignée Courtadon : la trachy-andésite, autrement appelée pierre de lave.

Leur savoir-faire se transmet de père en fils depuis plusieurs générations, conférant à Thierry un talent rare. Dès l’âge de 13 ans il le démontre en sculptant une vierge de ses petites mains d’enfant.

Thierry Courtadon se qualifie comme « pierreux », à mi-chemin entre artiste et artisan, ce terme qu’il s’approprie regroupe l’éventail de ses amours pour la pierre.

Du monumental à l’infiniment petit, de la pierre brute à la dentelle ciselée, Thierry joue avec la matière, l’apprivoise, en explore les limites.

Chaque jour, il prouve son amour à la pierre en la réinventant, lui offrant des formes auxquelles elle n’aurait jamais pu rêver de sa vie de pierre.

Tour à tour décorant la table d’un restaurant étoilé, fusionnée à du carbone pour devenir canapé ultra-design, et bientôt mise à l’honneur en sculpture monumentale dans le majestueux jardin du Palais Royal, la pierre vit.

Magicien ou expert, c’est selon, mais sans jamais oublier les techniques ancestrales et les outils d’autrefois, il met la technologie au service de son art lorsqu’elle devient nécessaire pour servir sa cause.

Au croisement de l’inné et l’acquis, de l’histoire et l’avenir, de la nature brute naît une oeuvre à la minutie hypnotisante.

Ainsi, donc, la pierre de lave et son « pierreux » réalisent-ils l’absolu, que les heureux passionnés du temps et de matière auront la chance d’admirer du lundi 20 avril au samedi 9 mai dans notre boutique place Vendôme.

Since it was first created in 1980, the company has spent time researching on innovative material. From this research results the inevitable audacity, when a mad scientist gives birth to an unscratchable gold, or when he reinvents lace by combining it with carbon.

Hublot, material lover, honors a man sharing the same passion : Thierry Courtadon.

Rooted in the family’s DNA is « trachy-andesite », also called lava stone.

The men of the lineage have transmitted their know-how since generations, providing Thierry with a rare talent. At the age of 13, he proves it by sculpting a virgin with his little child’s hands.

Thierry Courtadon qualifies himself as « stone-man », half way between artist and craftsman, this term which he invents regroups his various kinds of love for the stone.

From monumental to infinitely small, from raw stone to lace-like work, Thierry plays with matter, tames it,explores its limits.

Each day, he proves his love to the lava stone by reinventing it, by offering it shapes of which it would never have dreamt of in its stone life.

Whether it be to decorate the table of a Michelin starred restaurant, fused with carbon to become an ultra-designed sofa, or soon honored as monumental sculpture in the majestuous garden of the Palais Royal in Paris, the stone lives.

Magician or expert, it depends, but never forgetting the ancestral techniques and tools, he uses technology to serve his art when it becomes necessary to his cause.

At the crossroads of innate and acquired, history and future, from raw nature a hypnotically minute work of art is born.

And so, the lava stone and its « stone-man » realise the absolute, that lucky time and material devotees will have the chance to admire from Monday 20th of April to Saturday 9th of May in our Hublot Boutique place Vendôme.
