Some dates go beyond the simple framework of history. July 21, 1969 belongs to that category. On that day, humanity crossed a previously unimaginable frontier when Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. More than half a century later, Swatch pays tribute to this feat, which continues to fascinate the entire world, with a new MoonSwatch, as symbolic as it is spectacular.
Named MISSION TO THE MOON 1969, this new creation does not simply revisit the world of the famous OMEGA x Swatch collaboration. For the first time, it introduces a significant amount of OMEGA’s 18-carat Moonshine™ Gold into a MoonSwatch, while multiplying references to one of the greatest human adventures.

A MoonSwatch that enters a new dimension

Since its launch in 2022, the MoonSwatch collection has profoundly upended the watchmaking landscape. By making the aesthetic of the Speedmaster accessible to a much wider audience, Swatch created a global phenomenon rarely seen in the industry.
With the Mission to the Moon 1969, the brand takes a new step.
Limited to just 1,969 pieces, this anniversary edition stands as the most exclusive MoonSwatch ever produced. Its name directly references the year of the Moon landing, while every detail of its design celebrates the legendary Apollo 11 mission.
Eleven grams of gold to evoke Apollo 11

The most spectacular element of this limited edition lies in the use of OMEGA’s 18-carat Moonshine™ Gold.
The dial, hands, crown and pushers are all made from this exclusive alloy, representing a total of eleven grams of gold.
This figure is obviously no coincidence. It stands as a direct tribute to Apollo 11, the mission that allowed man to set foot on the lunar surface for the first time.
The story of this gold adds an extra dimension to this watch. The Moonshine™ Gold used comes from old OMEGA spare parts, carefully recovered and then remelted in the manufacture’s workshops to give them a new life.
An approach that combines watchmaking heritage, the recycling of precious materials and historical memory.
An aesthetic inspired by the historic Speedmaster

Beyond the presence of gold, the Mission to the Moon 1969 multiplies nods to the famous gold Speedmaster presented by OMEGA at the end of 1969 to celebrate the success of Apollo 11.
Its vertically satin-brushed dial echoes the spirit of the historic model, while the black bioceramic bezel receives a golden tachymeter scale protected by a glossy coating.
The faceted gold indexes, outlined in black lacquer, the vintage OMEGA and Speedmaster logos as well as the specific typography further reinforce this kinship with one of the most iconic references in the history of space watchmaking.
The whole naturally retains the codes that made the MoonSwatch’s success, with its 42mm case in black bioceramic and its rubber strap fitted with a VELCRO® closure, whose gold lining features a texture evoking the surface of the Moon.
Details that tell the story

As is often the case with Swatch, hidden details take on an important role.
On the back of the watch, the battery cover reveals a golden Moon protected by a scratch-resistant treatment. It also features the historic date of the first Moon landing along with an imprint recalling the famous step taken on the Sea of Tranquility.
Each piece also receives an individual number engraved on the side of the case, at nine o’clock, highlighted by a discreet touch of gold lacquer.
All of these elements reinforce the collectible nature of this particularly exclusive edition.
A price that looks back to 1969

Swatch has another surprise in store for future buyers.
While the eleven grams of Moonshine™ Gold would today represent a much higher value, the brand chose to set the watch’s price at 500 Swiss francs.
A price directly inspired by the value that eleven grams of gold would have represented on July 21, 1969, the date of the historic Moon landing, rather than following current precious metal prices.
An original way of bringing the past and the present into dialogue.
A MoonSwatch that celebrates far more than a watch

With the Mission to the Moon 1969, Swatch once again demonstrates its ability to tell a story beyond the object itself.
By combining OMEGA’s Moonshine™ Gold, the aesthetic codes of the historic Speedmaster and an unprecedented purchasing method, the brand turns this limited edition into a true tribute to one of the greatest scientific and human adventures of the 20th century.
More than a simple variation on the MoonSwatch, this creation celebrates the legacy of Apollo 11 while recalling the inseparable link between the history of space exploration and that of the Speedmaster. An edition that should easily find its place among the most sought-after MoonSwatches since the collection’s launch.
