Nicknamed the Grande Maison, Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the most complete manufactures in watchmaking. Here is a look back at its history and at what we cover of its news.
A manufacture chronology. In 1833, Antoine LeCoultre founded his workshop in the Vallée de Joux. In 1844, he invented the Millionometer, an instrument capable of measuring the micron, a guarantee of unprecedented precision. The early 20th century sealed the partnership with Parisian watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, which would give rise to the name Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937. In 1931, the Reverso was born, its swivelling case protecting the dial during polo matches, and it went on to become an Art Deco icon. The brand also introduced the Atmos clock in 1928, which draws its energy from variations in temperature.
Fully integrated craftsmanship. Jaeger-LeCoultre designs and manufactures most of its components and has developed hundreds of calibres, some among the thinnest or most complicated in the world. The Grande Maison long supplied movements to other major brands, proof of its expertise.
Reference collections. Beyond the Reverso, the manufacture offers the classic Master Control, the sporty Polaris, the Duomètre and multi axis tourbillons that showcase its mastery of haute horlogerie. This versatility, from the dress watch to the exceptional complication, is what makes the house unique.
